Within Siemens Healthineers, the central UX team not only focuses on the user experience of a specific product or service, but also collaborates with all business lines to design a holistic, coherent, and delightful experience for the entire Siemens Healthineers product portfolio.
Responsibilities:
Establishing product experience through user journeys and workflows
Planning/organizing/conducting research efforts and moderating usability testing sessions
Creating mid-high fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes that showcase various interface directions
Presenting designs, justifying design decisions, and helping stakeholders contribute to the design process
Translating wireframes into final visual design; collaborating with engineers to ensure the visual design translates to the final experience

Lead User Experience Designer

HSD is an ISO 13485 and 9001 Certified Product Design and Development Firm specializing in medical, scientific, consumer, commercial, healthcare products and packaging delivery systems.
With User Experience as a key focus, I worked directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams to design and develop first-of-kind product experiences. As a researcher, I concentrated on understanding and defining critical user needs by analyzing, organizing, and graphically presenting data from formative studies and contextual research. I was also responsible for planning and conducting formal usability testing (Formative and Summative) including the creation of test plans, protocols, and the final report.
Responsibilities:
Conducting research - methods include contextual inquiry in user’s environments (operating rooms, cath labs, diagnostic labs, etc) and usability evaluation
User needs and workflow definition for first of kind products
Drafting design requirements and specification documents (User Needs Document, Usability Plan, User Interface Desgin Document)
Developing interaction architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and visual design specifications
Planning and conducting usability evaluations for Verification and Validation - includes writing final protocols and reports
Advocating compliance with AAMI guidelines for Medical Device development
Synthesizing and presenting findings as actionable recommendations for clients
Helping with business development - presenting HSD’s research and UX / UI capabilities to potential clients, presenting at industry conferences
UX / UI Designer & Researcher

My role morphed from Industrial Designer to a cross-functional role as a UX/UI Designer and Researcher. At HSD, I worked on a variety of projects ranging from surgical/medical devices, laboratory devices, consumer health products, to mobile applications. I planned, organized, and conducted human factors activities including user research methods such as contextual inquiry and usability evaluations, while growing my expertise on the AAMI guidelines for medical device development.

Where it all started. I started my design career at HSD as an Industrial Design Intern. I assisted with concept development and form ideation with a focus on usability and user experience, and usability testing.

Michael Graves College at Kean University is transforming architecture and design education by making it meaningful to a wider public. The industrial design program at Kean provides a solid foundation in general design, visual arts and art history as well as extensive hands-on design experience to prepare graduates with the background and skills needed to confidently shape the world through design.
As an Adjunct Professor, I instructed a variety of design studio courses in Toy Design, Design Fundamentals, and Industrial Design, ranging from freshman to senior levels.
